Venkaiah praises Vande Bharat Abhiyan

New Delhi, Dec 2 (UNI) Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday lauded the Vande Bharat Abhiyan for bringing home Indians stranded abroad during the Coronavirus pandemic and said the interests of common Indians in international relations and foreign policy were kept at its centre.

Addressing a meeting of the Board of Governors of the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), of which he is the ex-officio President, which he chaired virtually, Mr Naidu said the Vande Bharat Abhiyan has been “very successful and spectacular”. This had proved that the common Indian was at the heart of India’s international relations and foreign policy. Emphasis has been laid on the interests of common Indians.

India organised Vande Bharat missions to enable its citizens living and working abroad to return to their homeland.

“I am happy that even in these extremely trying times, India has not forgotten to help countries who needed assistance with items such as pharmaceutical products made by our industry,” he said referring to the help extended by India to many nations in supplying medicines and equipment manufactured by Indian industries, adding that India was leading the world in dealing with the Covid pandemic.

While most countries had reacted in a spirit of collaborative cooperation, some have retreated into a shell in pursuit of their narrow interests.
