Birla pays floral tributes to Grand Old Man of India Dadabhai Naoroji

New Delhi, Sep 4 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Birla paid floral tributes to Dadabhai Naoroji in the Central Hall of Parliament House on his birth anniversary on Friday. Lok Sabha Secretary-General Snehlata Shrivastava also paid floral tributes.

The portrait of Dadabhai Naoroji was unveiled by the then Speaker G V Mavalankar, in the Central Hall of Parliament House on 13 March 1954.

Dadabhai Naoroji , also known as the “Grand Old Man of India” and “official Ambassador of India” was an Indian Parsi scholar, trader and politician. He was born on 4 September 1825 and passed away 30 June 1917.

He was the first Asian to sit in the House of Commons and a towering figure that represented anti-imperialism before the arrival of Mahatma Gandhi.

He regarded as one of the most important Indians during the Independence movement. In his writings, he considered that the foreign intervention into India was clearly not favourable for the country.
