Libya reports 1,076 new COVID-19 cases, 41,368 in total

TRIPOLI, Oct 10 (Xinhua) The National Center for Disease Control of Libya reported 1,076 new COVID-19 cases, the second highest daily increase so far, raising the total number in the country to 41,368.

The new cases were detected after 3,694 suspected samples were tested, the Center said in a statement on Friday.

In addition, 323 more patients recovered and five others died from coronavirus, bringing the number of recoveries and death toll to 23,453 and 621 respectively, the Center added.

Libyan authorities have taken a series of precautionary measures against the pandemic since the first case was reported in March, including closing the country’s borders, shutting down schools and mosques, banning public gatherings and imposing a curfew.

China donated medical supplies to Libya in June to help the country’s pandemic battle, including 834 nucleic acid diagnostic kits, 5,000 medical protective suits, 15,000 N95 face masks, 100,000 surgical masks, 5,000 pairs of goggles and 5,000 pairs of medical gloves.
