Pakistan reports 798 new cases of coronavirus

Islamabad, Sep 25 (UNI) Pakistan on Friday reported 798 new cases of COVID-19 in last 24 hours while seven people died in the same period.

The death toll mounted to 6,444 while the country caseload has jumped to 3,09,015. Pakistan — world’s fifth most populous nation with near 22 crore people– conducted only 37,504 tests in past one day. According to National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), the country has so far conducted 33,44,019 tests.

There are now 7,831 active cases in the country while so far 2,94,740 people have been cured and discharged. Out of the active cases, 544 are said to be critical.

Province-wise breakup of cases is — 135,246 in Sindh, 98,864 in Punjab, 37,525 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 14,838 in Balochistan.

Meanwhile, President Dr. Arif Alvi has said the government’s strategy of smart lockdown proved very effective in preventing the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

He said National Command and Operation Center’s (NCOC) contact and tracing strategy proved very effective in tackling the infection.
