Maharashtra state to start jail tourism from Jan 26: Anil Deshmukh

Nagpur, Jan 23 (UNI) Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Saturday said that the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) government will start jail tourism in the state from Jan 26.

While addressing a press conference here, Deshmukh said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will inaugurate jail tourism facility in Pune’s Yerwada Jail on January 26.

Yerwada Jail is the largest jail in the Maharashtra state and many well- known freedom fighters individuals including Mahatma Gandhi were jailed here.

Numerous freedom fighters were punished and kept there and hence it is being developed as a tourist destination, the minister said.

Researchers and students will get an opportunity to get information about the historical events that took place in the jail, the minister added.
