10 times more infectious’ new Corona virus strain detected by Malaysia

While the world is dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2, a new strain of corona virus detected by Malaysia and is founded to be 10 times more infectious, according to Bloomberg report. Dr Anthony Fauci, America’s top infectious disease expert earlier, has warned that the SARS-CoV-2 virus was showing some signs of mutation in a way that may push the spread of the virus.

The mutation is called D614G and was found in at least three of the 45 cases in a cluster that begin from a restaurant owner. The man, who breached his 14 day home quarantine after returning from India, since then been sentenced for five months of imprisonment and fine, added the report.

The new strain could mean that the current studies on vaccines may be incomplete or ineffective against mutation of the virus, report quoted Noor Hisham Abdullah, Director-General of Health.

“People need to be wary and take greater precautions because this strain has now been found in Malaysia. The people’s cooperation is very needed so that we can together break the chain of infection from any mutation.,” Hisham posted on Facebook on Sunday.

The strain was also founded in other cluster involving individuals, who returned from the Philippines, stated the report.

Since virus was first identified in Wuhan, China last year in December, now  scientists have spotted some mutations or changes in the genetic material of  corona virus. While the virus mutation has become the predominant variant in Europe and the US, as the WHO said that there is no such evidence that the strain can result in a more severe illness. A paper that was published in Cell Press reported that the mutation is unlikely to have a major impact on the efficacy of vaccines which are being developed across the world.
