10,000 forces to be immediately withdrawn from Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, ordered Centre

The Central government ordered immediate withdrawal of around 10,000 paramilitary forces personnel from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, said officials on Wednesday. They said that, the decision was taken just after the Ministry of Home Affairs reviewed the deployment of the Central Armed Police Forces in the union territory.

A senior official informed that a total of 100 CAPF companies has been ordered to be withdrawn immediately and get back to their base locations in the country from where they were mobilised to the Union territory post the abrogation of the  Article 370 last year

According to the directions, about 40 companies of the CRPF and 20 each of companies including  the Central Industrial Security Force, the Border Security Force and the Sashastra Seema Bal, will be taken out of J&K by this week.

A CAPF company has an operational strength of around100 personnel.

In May, 10 CAPF companies were withdrawn from UT by the home ministry.

With the recent de-induction, the Central Reserve Police Force will have a strength of nearly 60 battalions (around 1,000 personnel in each battalion) in the Kashmir Valley apart from the few units of other CAPFs.
