Depression becomes deep depression, to intensify as cyclonic storm

Chennai, Dec 1 (UNI) The Depression over southeast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression and would further intensify as a cyclonic storm in the next 24 hrs.

A bulletin issued by the Met office on Tuesday said the depression moved nearly westwards with a speed of 10 kmph during past six hours, intensified into a Deep Depression and lay centered over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal about 530 km east-southeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka) and 930 km east-southeast of Kanniyakumari.

It is very likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours, move west-northwestwards and cross Sri Lanka coast close to Trincomalee tomorrow evening/night.

It is very likely to move nearly westwards thereafter, emerge into Comorin area on December 3 morning and move westward towards south Tamilnadu coast.
