Five Web channel journalists held on charge of extorting money from business house

Bhubaneswar, Oct 26 (UNI) Commissionerate of Police have arrested five web channel journalists and their driver on the charge of extortion and seized Rs 24,450 in cash, eleven mobile phones, two cars and four bikes from their possession. Police sources today said all the six were arrested yesterday and forwarded to the court.


Commissionerate of Police sources said the Police swung into action after receiving a complainant from Alok Padhi and Tofan Barik, the partners of Jyoti Traders, a non- edible oil manufacturing firm at Bhagwanpur under Tomando Police station.
Police said during investigation it was found that the journalists and the driver broke open the door of the firm, threatened them to publish illegalities and malpractices, assaulted them, demanded money and took away Rs 34,000 in cash from their cash box.
They also forced them to transact Rs 99,000 and Rs 31,000 through phone pay wallet on October 24 last.
They also ransacked their office and assaulted them and fled from the spot. Further investigation of the case is on.
