Goa CM meets Amit Shah, Joshi, Pradhan on issue of resumption of mining

Panaji, Nov 29 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant met Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines Prahlad Joshi and Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi on Saturday on the issue of resumption of mining in the state.

In a tweet, he said,’Met the Home Minister Shri @AmitShah ji, Mines Minister @JoshiPralhad ji, & Minister of Petroleum & Steel Shri @dpradhanbjp ji on the issue of resumption of Goa mining in the presence of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta & Advocate General of Goa Devidas Pangam, in New Delhi today. We are hopeful that some solution will be found out in the further deliberation with the central Government that will take place immediately.’

Mining activities in Goa stopped after imposition of ban by Supreme Court in 2012 following unearthing of a Rs 35,000 crore scam by a judicial commission appointed by the union government.

It was resumed in 2015 though with restrictions but was again halted in 2018 after the apex court found irregularities in the renewal of 88 mining leases.
