IPL 2020: De Villiers keeping wickets gives balance to RCB, says W Sundar

Dubai, Sep 29 (UNI) Royal Challengers Bangalore spinner Washington Sundar feels that AB de Villiers’ special ability to perform multiple tasks, including wicket-keeping, gives RCB the much-needed balance in the ongoing IPL 2020. De Villiers kept wickets, alongside smashing a 24-ball fifty in RCB’s win over defending Mumbai Indians on Monday. After the game, Sundar praised De Villiers saying if there is any job in the world that he cannot do.

“Honestly, tell me one thing he can’t do. Obviously, what the team needs him to do, he will do… more than happy to do, he has been doing that for RCB for so many years, of course it adds a lot of balance, you can play an extra batsman or an extra bowler,’ Sundar said.

‘I think him being behind the wickets also gives the bowler a lot of thought processes as well, he adds a lot of value,” he added.

Navdeep Saini turned out to be the star performer for RCB in the slog overs and the Super Over. In the Super Over, Saini mixed it up by bowling yorkers and going full and wide to keep Mumbai Indians down to just seven runs, chased effortlessely by RCB to script a memorable win.

Speaking after the match, Sundar said pacer Saini conceding just seven runs in the Super Over was a reflection of his tough character.

“Navdeep has been amazing, not just this year… last couple of years also he been very good and he has been going from strength-to-strength, so to bowl such an over (19th over) with two set batsmen and also when Hardik and Pollard were at the crease in the Super Over, to be able to to give just 7 runs is amazing, shows so much character and how much he has got that hunger,” said the spinner.

In a game where over 400 runs were scored, Sundar returned with superb bowling figures of 1/12 and he said that he was ‘happy’ that the think-tank gave him the chance of bowling in the Powerplay.

“Feeling really good, I did some planning coming to this game, and I was very happy I was given this role and I enjoy bowling in the Powerplay,” he said.

“Very glad that the captain has got so much confidence and the management. The challenge is to keep doing this, there are still a lot more games coming up and I should be able to do this and win games for the RCB,’ he added.
