Livestock sector has the potential to be at the forefront of economic development: VC SKUAST-Jammu

Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), asserted that in the present scenario livestock sector has the potential to become a catalyst in the rural economic development of the UT of J&K. He was interacting with the scientists of Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, R.S. Pura under ‘Talk at Lawn’ programme. This unique programme, a brain-child of Prof. Sharma, aimed at getting feedback from the ground level and to have one-to-one interaction with faculty members. Vice-Chancellor interacted with the scientists from the Divisions of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology, & Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics.
Prof. Sharma emphasized that there should be department-wise brainstorming sessions to find out the suitable topics and objectives of research projects to fulfill the needs and aspirations of the farming communities. He further said that the animal husbandry sector is now coming to the forefront of economic development.
Prof. Jag Paul Sharma, Director Research cum Registrar of the University, encouraged the scientists to work for multi-disciplinary research projects having high impacts on rural societies. Furthermore, he asked the scientist to provide integrated advisory services to the
farmers to focus on integrated farming system models.
At the outset, Prof. M.S. Bhadwal, Dean of the Faculty, welcomed the Vice-Chancellor and introduced the HoDs and teaching staffs of the division present in the meeting. He thanked him for his vision and guidance in making the university a vibrant institute; and creating a
cordial environment to interact with the scientists at the Divisional level. Various statutory officers of the University accompanied the Vice-Chancellor.
