Multi storey building in Mahad collapsed, 1 dead, 7 injured and 50 people are still trapped

1 dead and 7 others were injured after a multi-storey building in Mahad region of Raigad district, Maharashtra collapsed on Monday. At least seventeen people were rescued while fifty others were still feared to be trapped under the debris.

Around 5 to 6 relief teams are at the incident spot carrying out rescue operations. So far, no casualty has been reported.

As per the reports, 3 floors of a 5-storey building collapsed in Kajalpura area of Mahad Tehsil in Raigad district. The incident took place on Monday at 6:50 pm.

Aditi S Tatkare, Maharashtra Minister While confirming about the incident said that, “3 floors of a 5-storey building collapsed in Mahad of Raigad district; over 200 people are feared trapped. 15 people have been rescued.”

Though, later it was reported that about 17 people have been rescued while rest 50 are trapped inside the debris.

The National Disaster Response Force has rushed 3 teams to the spot while the police teams and fire fighting engines have also reached the incident site to carry out rescue operations.

Amit Shah, Union Home Minister while commenting on the incident said that he has spoken to Director General of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to provide all possible assistance. NDRF teams are on the way and will be assisting with the rescue operations as soon as possible.

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray discussed the building collapse in Mahad with MLA Bharat Gogavale and District Collector Nidhi Chaudhary. The Chief Minister assured that the government would extend all possible cooperation for speedy rescue and relief work in the area.
