nCoV: India’s count exceeds 50 lakh

New Delhi, Sep 16 (UNI) India’s nCoV tally on Wednesday zoomed past the 50 lakh-mark after clocking a sharp spike of over 90 k cases during in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry update said here. The country recorded 90,123 new cases and 1,290 deaths and with the additions, the tally now stands at 50,20,360, and the fatality toll has now mounted to 82,066, pegging the death rate at 1.63 per cent. In terms of recoveries, there were 82,961 cured cases taking the survivor count to 39,42,360 and recovery rate at 78.53 per cent.

In terms of active case load the peninsular currently houses 99,59,33 active cases amounting to 19.84 per cent of the total cases recorded till date. Maharashtra remains the worst affected state followed by Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 11,16,842 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, taking the total cumulative samples tested since the beginning of the pandemic till Tuesday to 5,94,29,115.

Globally, United States continues to remain the most-infected, followed by India and Brazil.
