NIA arrests mastermind of Jaipur Gold smuggling case

New Delhi, Oct 14 (UNI) National Investigation Agency(NIA) on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two accused Chuna Ram and Aizaz Khan in connection with Jaipur Gold smuggling case in Rajasthan on October 13.

Both Chuna Ram and Aizaz Khan, residents of Nagaur district, were the mastermind of this smuggling racket and had established a well-planned network for smuggling of gold from Riyadh to India.

During searches, various electronic items like pen drives, mobile phones, laptop and other incriminating documents have been seized.

The case arose out of the seizure of 18.5 kgs smuggled gold bars at Jaipur International Airport by the customs on July 30 this year and 10 people were arrested at that time for the smuggling.

All the accused persons had arrived from Riyadh by Spice Jet Flight No SG-9647 and the gold bars and biscuits were concealed in the battery of emergency lights and the same was kept in Checked-in baggage (Cartons) of these accused persons.

NIA took over this case under sections 120 B of Indian Penal Code and section 16 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967 on September 22 and initiated investigation in this case.

“Both the accused arrested by NIA Chuna Ram and Aizaz Khan, working in Riyadh, were among the main conspirators in the commission of crime and both were friends of those 10 couriers who were arrested on July 30”, the probe agency said, adding that the further investigation in this case is under progress.
