Odisha continues to register a spike of over 4000 covid cases on a single day, Toll mounts to 682

Bhubaneswar, Sep 18 (UNI) Odisha continued to report a single day spike of over 4000 covid 19 cases as 4180 people tested positive in the state during the last 24 hours taking the tally to 1,71,341. The covid toll in the state went up to 682 today as 13 more covid patients succumbed to the virus while undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Health and Family welfare department sources said during the last 24 hours 2466 positive cases were reported from the quarantine centres and 1714 local contact cases from 30 districts.

Khordha district continued to be on the top in the district tally with the report of 688 new cases followed by Cuttack (492), Jajpur ( 184) Puri and Sundargarh ( 166 each) Rayagada (160),Angul ( 155)and Balasore ( 133).

During the past 24 hours four covid patients died in Khordha district and two each in Cuttack and Kendrapara district while one each died in five more districts taking the covid toll in the state to 682.

Ganjam district remained in the top with 215 deaths followed by Khordha(103),Cuttack ( 56), Sundargarh (39 ), 34 each in Puri and Rayagada districts and Sambalpur (20).

During the last five days, the state witnessed a record spike of over 4000 new cases in four days registering a total 20,534 covid infection cases and 45 deaths. Official sources said till mid night of September 17, the state had conducted 26,67,782 tests of which 1,71,341 have been infected with the covid 19.

While 1,33,466 covid patients have been cured and discharged from the hospital, 37140 active cases are under treatment.The covid 19 has so far claimed 682 lives Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has congratulated the entire Plasma Therapy team for treating more than 1000 COVID-19 patients with the advanced medical procedure.

He also thanked all plasma donors for coming forward to strengthen Odisha’s fight against COVID-19 and helping save precious lives. Mr.Patnaik has expressed satisfaction that Odisha has touched a new peak in COVID-19 recoveries with 4121 patients recuperating in a single day and praised the healthcare professionals and Covid Warriors who are working dedicatedly.
