Srinagar turns white due to snowfall

Srinagar, Dec 12 (UNI) The summer capital, Srinagar and adjoining areas turned white due to fresh snowfall since early Saturday morning after rain on Friday evening.

Roof and tree tops, electric poles and open fields besides roads had turned white as people woke up this morning. Snowfall has stopped and the Sun was playing hide and seek as the sky remained partially cloudy.

Since it was just about two inches of snowfall, snow clearance operation could not be started. Snow has started melting due to which majority roads were water-lodged. Snow on roof and tree tops has also started melting due to improvement in the weather.

People, mostly children, were seen playing with snow at several places. Parks witnessed extra ordinary rush as people were taking photographs.

However, people in many areas alleged frequent power failure since last night. Snowfall has not affected traffic movement in the city.

The Met department has predicted rain and snow today in Srinagar and other plain areas.

“Haresa” (a special winter dish) shops witnessed heavy rush since early this morning.
