Widespread rainfall in AP while heavy rain fall expected in TN: IMD

New Delhi, Nov26 (UNI) India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that in wake of severe cyclone Nivar, a fairly widespread to widespread rainfall and thunderstorm activity expected with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls likely to occur over Chittoor, Kurnool, Prakasam; Cuddappa districts of Andhra Pradesh and adjoining southeast Telangana and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places likely over north Tamilnadu, remaining districts of Andhra Pradesh and southeast Telangana.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into Southwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal along and off Tamilnadu-Puducherry coasts and south Andhra Pradesh coast till tonight. Also total suspension of fishing operations is also advised for these areas over the same period.

The Cyclonic Storm ‘NIVAR’ over north coastal Tamilnadu moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 15 kmph during past six hours, weakened into Deep Depression and lay centred at 1430 hrs IST of on November 26 over South Rayalaseema and neighbourhood near Lat. 13.4°N and Long 79.2°E, about 50 Km west-southwest of Tirupathi and 115 Km west-northwest of Chennai.

The deep Depression is very likely to move nearly northwards, weaken further into a Depression during next 06 hours and into a Low Pressure Area by subsequent 12 hours, the IMD added.
