Amit Shah to lay foundation stones for three academic buildings in...

Puducherry, April 21 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his one-day visit on Sunday, will lay foundation stones for three academic buildings at Pondicherry University (PU)which will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 48.66 Crore. A PU release on Thursday said, foundation stones will be laid for the annex buildings to the Department of Physics and Chemistry and a new building for the Department of Food Science and Technology in the University Main Campus. Puducherry Lt.Governor and Chief Rector of the University Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, Chief Minister N. Rangaswamy, Ministers, and Parliament members among others will attend the function.

Electricity Department Employees begin indefinite strike

Puducherry, Feb 1 : Despite a warning of departmental action, Employees of the Electricity Department here on Tuesday began their Indefinite strike to protest against the move of the Central government to privatize the Electricity Distribution Company (Discom) in the Union Territory. It may be noted that the Centre took a policy decision to privatize the Electricity Distribution Companies (Discoms) in Union Territories and the process here was started with a draft report being published. Following this, the employees called for an indefinite strike. Tension prevailed near the Electricity Department Head office at Vambakeerappalayam as police prevented the employees, when they marched towards the head office, citing the prohibitory order under section 144 Cr.PC in force. The employees squat on the road and held a demonstration. A large number of employees including Electricity employees Union leaders from Tamil Nadu and Kerala joined them.

Covid : 45 new cases in UT in past 24 hours

Puducherry, Oct 29 : The fresh Coronavirus cases recorded in the Union Territory on Friday was as same as what was registered on Thursday, with 45 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the last 24 hours, ending at 10 AM this morning, taking the infection tally to 1,27,936 and death toll remained at 1,857 with no fatalities reported during the period.

Puducherry, Oct 19 : Former Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Monday night alleged that Chief Minister N Rangaswamy had failed to implement any of the schemes he announced in the Assembly recently. In a video clip sent to the media here, Mr Narayanasamy pointed out the announcement of the Chief Minister about the revival of all textile mills, PAPSCO, PASIC and said the latter should have announced them after arranging the funds to implement the same.

COVID : 56 new cases in UT in past 24 hours

Puducherry, Oct 12 : Union Territory of Puducherry has recorded 56 fresh COVID-19 cases during the last 24 hours, ending at 10 AM on Tuesday, taking the infection tally to 1,27,151. No fatalities were reported during the period and the death toll remained at 1848. According to the Covid-19 status released by the health department here, of the 4,537 swab sample tests conducted on Monday, 56 persons tested positive for the virus.

Puducherry, Oct 2 : 82 more persons were tested positive for Coronavirus Disease (COVID 19) in the last 24 hours taking the tally of infection in the union territory to 126513. For the third successive day,no deaths were reported and the death toll remained 1840.

979 new nCoV cases, 14 deaths in UT

Puducherry, Jun 1 (UNI) There is a slight increase in Coronavirus cases in the Union Territory with 979 more persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, ending at 10 AM, on Tuesday. As many as 627 new Coronavirus cases had been registered on Monday, taking the COVID-19 tally to 1,05,432. However, the number of deaths came down to 14 during the period as against the 18 deaths reported yesterday.

284 Jipmer Doctors infected by COVID

Puducherry, May 28 (UNI) As many as 284 doctors of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) were tested positive for COVID-19, including 78 doctors during April-May this year. Jipmer has been in the forefront in treating patients with moderate to critical Covid-19, particularly from the poorest and most vulnerable sections
