979 new nCoV cases, 14 deaths in UT

Puducherry, Jun 1 (UNI) There is a slight increase in Coronavirus cases in the Union Territory with 979 more persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, ending at 10 AM, on Tuesday.

As many as 627 new Coronavirus cases had been registered on Monday, taking the COVID-19 tally to 1,05,432. However, the number of deaths came down to 14 during the period as against the 18 deaths reported yesterday.

According to the Covid-19 status here, of the 8,540 swab sample tests conducted on May 31, 979 persons tested positive for the virus. About 746 new cases were reported in Puducherry region, 170 in Karaikal region, 29 in Yanam region and 34 in Mahe region.

In the last 24 hours, 1,403 patients were discharged. Of them, 1,130 were from Puducherry region, 172 from Karaikal region, 56 from Yanam region and 45 from Mahe region.

Presently, 1,179 patients are being treated in Puducherry region,183 in Karaikal region,100 in Yanam region and 71 in Mahe region. Another, 9,176 persons were taking treatment under home isolation in all the four regions of UT after tested positive for COVID-19.

So far, 1,05,432 persons are infected by the Corona virus and of which 93,173 patients were treated and discharged, 1,550 people died and 10,709 patients were undergoing treatment in hospitals and home isolation.
Among the 14 patients who died due to COVID related problems, eight are women. Ten of them died in Puducherry region, three in Karaikal region and one in Yanam region.

Till now, 2,66,503 persons, including healthcare workers, frontline workers and general public were given Covid vaccine in the UT.
