Facebook Controversy: BJP Party’s MP Nishikant Dubey files a notice of Breach of privilege against Congress leaders

Bhartiya Janta Party MP Nishikant Dubey moved a notice of Breach of Privilege against the Congress party leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday, over Facebook controversy. In a tweet Dubey said,”For the first time have I seen that a Chairman of a Parliamentary Committee has moved privilege against its own fellow member. Even after my extensive knowledge on Parliamentary rules, ethics, and conventions I still feel that the matter should be discussed in the Parliament,”.

Prior, justifying the move to move a privilege motion against the  Gandhi and Tharoor, he claimed that Tharoor had alleged the BJP party of wrongdoings via social media platforms and accusing the party means accusing its MPs. “Hence its a question of privilege because he questioned the intention, integrity, and honesty of MPs,” Dubey said.

Shashi Tharoor earlier has  wrote to Om Birla, Lik Sabha Speaker to sought some action against Dubey

The move came only after Tharoor’s move, who is the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology, gave a notice for breach of privilege against Dubey for his alleged disparaging comments.

In his letter to LS Speaker, Tharoor wrote that Dubey’s strong remarks that, “the Chairman of the Standing Committee does not have the authority to do anything without discussion of the agenda with its members” , demands stringent action.

“I sincerely hope that stringent action is taken in this matter so that it serves as a deterrent to similar incidents in future and restores public trust in Parliament,” Tharoor said.
