34 th Meeting of Board of Management of SKUAST-Jammu held

34 th meeting of Board of Management of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) of Jammu held at Vice Chancellor’s secretariat under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor, Professor J.P. Sharma.

At the outset, Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice- Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Management, SKUAST-Jammu welcomed all the members of Board of Management and highlighted various initiatives taken by the University in Academic, Research and Extension. Besides, Prof. Sharma also discussed about various achievements of the University viz. Vice Chancellor to Village Programme, release of 12 crop varieties, development of model of Integrated Farming System of
1 ha for doubling farmers income, establishment of model of Integrated Farming System of 0.5 ha at each KVK, farmers’ participatory seed production programme, commencement of degree programmes in B.Sc. Horticulture, M.Sc. (Ag.) Seed Technology, Ph.D. Agri-Business
Management and Floriculture, organization of 5 days Kisan mela in which six neighbouring states participated etc.

In his remarks, Shri Atal Dullo, IAS, Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary) Finance Department, J&K Govt. expressed his satisfaction with the initiatives, progress and achievements of the University. He exhorted that University should increase its outreach towards the farmers so that the objectives of Atmanirbhar Bharat can be achieved without lag. Shri Navin K Choudhary, IAS, Principal Secretary Agriculture Production and Farmers’ Welfare Department stressed upon the commencement of classes of B.Sc. Horticulture
from current Academic Year. He said that University should collaborate with National Seed Corporation for the multiplication of Breeder Seed produced in the University.
Dr. Jag Paul Sharma, Director Research and Registrar of the University delivered power point presentation about the activities of the University. He presented the agendas of the meeting that included consideration and approval of implementation of reservation policy and reservation roaster in teaching positions of SKUAST-Jammu at the level of Professor/ Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor & equivalents in accordance with central educational institutions (Reservation Act, 2019), adoption of UGC regulations on minimum qualification for
appointment of teachers and other academic staff in universities and colleges and measures for the maintenance of standards in higher education (2018), bifurcation of Division of Vegetable Science, Floriculture and Landscaping Unit of Faculty of Agriculture into Division of Vegetable Science and Division of Floriculture and Landscaping, carving of Faculty of Horticulture from Faculty of Agriculture and institutionalization of B.Sc. Horticulture degree programme.

Issues related to institutionalization of new academic programme, delegation of powers to Principal Investigator of National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP), ICAR, SKUAST-Jammu, consideration of post of Public Relation Officer (PRO) and Secretary to Vice Chancellor (SVC) at par with that of Assistant Registrar & equivalents and caderization of post of Junior Physiotherapist in SKUAST-Statutes, as per the concurrence of Financial Advisor
(Universities) were also deliberated.
