Africa’s nCoV cases pass 2.17 mln mark

Addis Ababa, Dec 1 (UNI) The number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases on the African continent has reached 2,170,843, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said on Tuesday.
The continental disease control and prevention agency said in a statement that the death toll related to the pandemic stood at 51,915 as of Tuesday afternoon, while 1,840,575 people infected with COVID-19 have recovered.
The most COVID-19 affected African countries in terms of the number of positive cases include South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, and Ethiopia, figures from the Africa CDC showed.
Southern Africa is the most affected region both in terms of the number of confirmed positive cases as well as the number of deaths, followed by the Northern Africa region, according to the Africa CDC.
South Africa currently has the most COVID-19 cases, which hit 790,004.
The country also has the highest number of deaths related to COVID-19, at 21,535.
Morocco comes next with 353,803 confirmed cases and 5,789 deaths, followed by Egypt with 115,911 confirmed cases and 6,650 deaths, the Africa CDC said.
