BJD expels party MLA Pradeep Panigrahi for anti-people activities

Bhubaneswar, Nov 29 (UNI) Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today expelled party MLA from Gopalpur Pradeep Panigrahi from the primary membership of the party for anti-people activities.

BJD General Secretary (Media Affairs) Manas Ranjan Mangaraj in a release to the media said Dr Pradeep Panigrahi, MLA Gopalpur is expelled from the primary membership of the party with immediate effect for his anti-people activities by the order of the party President Naveen Patnaik.

Dr Panigrahi was recently in news for his alleged link with the suspended IFS officer Abhay Kant Pathak who was arrested by the Vigilance department on Friday and now in Judicial custody till December 9 next after disproportionate assets to the tune of Over Rs nine crore was detected from his possession.

As per the media reports Akash Pathak, son of the IFS officer, impersonating as an officer of the Tata Motors, has allegedly collected huge amounts of money from the youths of the Ganjam district to appoint them as management and engineers trainees.

The MLA is alleged to have acted as a link between Akash and the youths.

Reports in local media also said Dr Panigrahi’s daughter was to marry Akash in a palace at Jaipur in Rajasthan and all arrangements had been made for the wedding ceremony.

Congress MLA Santosh Singh Saluja had alleged that a ruling party MLA had links with Mr Pathak and his daughter’s marriage was finalised with Mr Pathak’s son. He demanded the government to make the name of the MLA public.

But before the wedding IFS officer, Abhay Kanta Pathak and his son Akash were arrested and sent to judicial custody in connection with amassing huge property disproportionate to the known source of income.
